Left Waves nodigt componist en geluidsartiest Roger Eno (UK) uit in de prachtige Minardschouwburg. In 2022 bracht Eno zijn veelgeprezen solodebuut The Turning Year uit op Deutsche Grammophon, het gerenommeerde platenlabel voor klassieke muziek. Nummers als “Above And Below” werden al meer dan 21 miljoen (!) keer gestreamd. Eind oktober 2023 verscheen opvolger The Skies, they shift like chords. Nummers als “Arms Open Wide” laten horen waar Eno’s kracht ligt: zachte, uitgepuurde piano die de luisteraar meteen bij de keel grijpt.
Eno’s beklijvende muziek zorgt voor sferische landschappen die indruk maken. En dat ontgaat ook tal van regisseurs niet. Zo werd zijn muziek al gebruikt voor films als Trainspotting, 9½ weeks en The Jacket. Samen met zijn broer Brian Eno – u weet wel, die van Roxy Music, David Bowie, U2, Talking Heads én ambient pionier – maakte hij ook de soundtrack voor Dune van David Lynch.
Naast componist is Eno ook een begenadigd muzikant en multi-instrumentalist. Hij deelde het podium met ronkende namen als Lou Reed, Jarvis Cocker, Marianne Faithfull en Beck. In de studio werkte hij samen met David Gilmour, Peter Hammill en Tim Robbins.
SUPPORT Thijs Troch
Pianist Thijs Troch stelt zijn nieuwe solo project ‘Stilleven’ voor. Verstilde elektronische geluiden gaan in gesprek (of bestaan naast) (on)geprepareerde pianoklanken en harmonium. Een electro-akoestische klankwereld met een meditatief karakter. De plaat is uit bij het geweldige bwaa. records label.
Thijs Troch is a Belgian piano player. He is active in bands such as Nordmann, Kabas, Milk Factory, Jukwaa, Keenroh, Hypochristmutreefuzz… In addition, he has already released several solo albums that, besides the piano, also features synthesizers, acoustic and electric guitars, harmonium, and banjos.
Liner notes
The idea for this music started with textural, electronic meditations, where time becomes a blur and there is no need for pushing things to happen. You can zoom in or zoom out of the music at any time. This also relates to my fascination or need for longer (or shorter) periods of concentration. In reality one loses focus because of life happening and I feel this record can be enjoyed in the background as well as in a concentrated listening session.
The first synthesizer recordings were done in my home between september-november 2021. This daily work generated a lot of material and a lot of editing was necessary. I did a piano overdub session in which I reacted to the electronic pieces spontaneously in Peter Desmedt’s Studio Ledeberg. Everything was carefully mixed by Dries Geusens and mastered by Frederic Alstadt for vinyl and digital. Maxime Melis made a beautiful textural painting of a zoomed in Vanitas Stilleven for the cover and finally Louis Garrido did the layout. THANK YOU!
